Ingrown Toenail Treatment

Ingrown Toenail Treatment

An ingrowing toenail is when part of the nail has pierced the skin of the toe. It can cause extreme pain and can quickly become inflamed and infected. There are many causes of ingrowing toenails but one of the most common is cutting your toenails incorrectly.

In terms of ingrown toenail treatment we recommend you never try to treat yourself, always consult a chiropodist as soon as possible. If left untreated an ingrowing toenail infection can spread and may result in surgery. Getting treatment early is more likely to result in less painful treatment.

We are able to effectively diagnose and treat all stages of ingrowing toenail, including ingrown nail surgery. We can also give the best advice on how to prevent it in the future. Contact us now to book an appointment.

Nail Surgery

Nail surgery for the permanent solution of your painful ingrown nail will be completed under a local anaesthetic. Treatment may be on one or both sides of the nail plate and sometimes the whole nail may need to be removed. Phenol is used to cauterise the nail bed which stops the nail cells from regrowing in this area. You will need to attend up to three redressing appointments before your treatment plan is complete.
Nail surgery has very successful outcomes and can reduce or eliminate the need for regular routine podiatry visits.
